At Funded Trading Plus, we are committed to providing the highest level of education and support to our traders. That commitment has led us to bring on board one of the most experienced and respected figures in the trading industry —Andrew Lockwood.
A Career Defined by Experience
Andrew’s career in financial markets spans over three decades, during which he has witnessed and navigated some of the most pivotal moments in trading history. From his early days as a floor trader to his expertise in navigating electronic markets, Andrew’s journey is a testament to his deep understanding of market dynamics and trader psychology.
One of the most defining moments of Andrew’s career was Black Wednesday, September 16, 1992. On that day, Andrew was trading on the floor of the London International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE), in what would become one of the most dramatic currency crises in modern history. As Britain struggled to maintain the pound within the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM), Andrew was on the frontlines, trading against the legendary investor George Soros.
Trading Against a Legend
On that fateful day, speculation was mounting that Soros was positioning billions against the pound, betting that the British government would be forced to withdraw from the ERM. As the market opened, Andrew and his team engaged in a fierce battle, working tirelessly to counter Soros’s massive short positions. Every attempt to stabilize the pound was met with relentless pressure, and despite intervention from the Bank of England, the inevitable occurred—Britain exited the ERM, and Soros walked away with a billion-pound profit.
Andrew recalls the intensity of that day: the rapid decisions, the shifting sentiment, and the lessons learned in risk management and market forces. It was an experience that would shape his approach to trading and training for years to come.
